Gifting an IRA or Qualified Plan

A very efficient way to donate funds to the AKHF is to designate all or a portion of an IRA or Qualified Plan at your death. In doing so, that portion of your estate will not be subject to estate or death taxes, as other property in your estate. Additionally, such funds do not go through the probate process, which can delay the timing of the gift substantially. However, the Retirement Equity Act of 1984 requires that a spouse receive at least 50% of the value of an IRA. If you plan on donating more than half of its value, a spouse would have to sign a waiver agreeing to that distribution amount.
