Bole Literary Scholarship

The Helen Rakowski Bole Literary award is intended for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Is a resident within the Highlands School District.
  • Is a graduating senior high school student at Highlands Senior High School.
  • Has a documented financial need for schooling.
  • Has been accepted into a Bachelor’s degree program in a major course of study related to literature at an accredited university or college.

By submitting an application, you agree that you meet all of the above criteria.

This award will be in the $2,000 to $2,500 range, with the possibility of a similar award in year two.

Helen Rakowski Bole Nursing Scholarship Program
- Per the Scholarship Donor’s Requirement, Applicants Must be Female.
- Limited to Students in RN or BSN Programs.
- Must be Enrolled as a First-Year/Term Nursing Student for the Summer or Fall Term.
- This year’s award will be in the $1,000 to $5,000 range.
- Application Deadline - June 30th

Adolph Rzotkewicz Nursing Scholarship Program
- Limited to Students in RN or BSN Programs.
- Must be Enrolled as a First-Year/Term Nursing Student for the Summer or Fall Term.
- This year’s award will be in the $1,000 to $5,000 range.
- Application Deadline - June 30th

Helen Rakowski Bole Literary Scholarship Program
- Per the Scholarship Donor’s Requirement, Applicants Must be Female and a Graduating Senior at Highlands High School.
- Limited to Students Enrolled in four-year Bachelor Degree Programs in Literature or a Related Field (Including English, Foreign Language, Library Science, Journalism, Communication, etc.)
- Must be Enrolled as a First-Year/Term Student for the Summer or Fall Term.
- This Award is a Two-Year Award Pending the Student’s Renewal Application that Provides Evidence of Success after the Completion of their Freshmen Year and That the Student Remains at the Same School, in the Same Major.
- As Such, a New Recipient will Typically be Selected Every Other Year. The Award is Open for the 2023 Academic Year.
- This year’s award will be in the $2,000 to $2,500 range for up to Two-Years (Restrictions Apply)!
- Application Deadline - June 30th

Robert & Jean Walsh Math & Science Scholarship Program
- Per the Scholarship Donor’s Requirement, Applicants Must be a Graduating Senior at Highlands High School or at St. Joseph High School IF THEY ALSO RESIDE IN THE HIGHLANDS SCHOOL DISTRICT.
- Limited to Students, enrolling in a Math or Science Bachelor Degree Program at an Accredited Four-year College or University.
- Must be Enrolled as a First-Year/Term Student for the Summer or Fall Term.
- This Award is a Two-Year Award Pending the Student’s Renewal Application that Provides Evidence of Success after the Completion of their Freshmen Year and that the Student Remains at the Same School, in the Same Major.
- This year’s award will be in the $2,500 to $3,000 range for up to Two-Years (Restrictions Apply)!
- Application Deadline - June 30th

Robert & Jean Walsh Humanities Scholarship Program
- Per the Scholarship Donor’s Requirement, Applicants Must be a Graduating Senior at Highlands High School or at St. Joseph High School IF THEY ALSO RESIDE IN THE HIGHLANDS SCHOOL DISTRICT.
- Limited to Students Enrolling in a Humanities Bachelor Degree Program at an Accredited Four-year College or University. Major Fields of Study May include Art, Archeology, Education, English, History, Language, Law, Music, Political Science, Philosophy, Religion, Sociology, etc.
- Must be Enrolled as a First-Year/Term Student for the Summer or Fall Term.
- This Award is a Two-Year Award Pending the Student’s Renewal Application that Provides Evidence of Success after the Completion of their Freshmen Year and that the Student Remains at the Same School, in the Same Major.
- This year’s award will be in the $2,500 to $3,000 range for up to Two-Years (Restrictions Apply)!
- Application Deadline - June 30th

Betty Czekalski Scholarship
- Per the Scholarship Donor’s Requirement, Applicants Must be Female.
- Limited to Students Pursuing a Business-Related Associate or Bachelor Degree Program at an Accredited Educational Institution.
- May be a Graduating Senior from an Alle-Kiski Valley High School, or a Woman Resuming Her Post-High School Education.
- Must be Enrolled as a First-Year/Term Student, Unless They Received the Award the Prior Year, then a Second Year Award MAY Be Considered.
- This year’s award will be in the $3,000 range.
- Application Deadline - June 30th

Sally Wellinger Memorial Scholarship
  • Applicant must be a female student.
  • Applicant must be accepted to and be attending an American-based accredited college or university with the major field of study of mathematics, computer science or similar field.
  • Applicants must be entering year one of their college or university matriculation.
  • Applicants must be graduates of one of the following high schools: Allegheny Valley, Apollo Ridge, Burrell, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, Freeport, Highlands, Kiski, Knoch, Leechburg, New Kensington-Arnold or Saint Joseph’s.
  • Applicants must be residents of the region known as the Alle-Kiski Valley at the time of making application for an award from the Fund.
  • Applicants must have proven financial need documented through the school’s financial aid office and shared with the Foundation during the application process.
  • Applicants may be older, non-traditional students who are entering a college or university more than a year after graduation from high school, provided they fulfill all requirements stated herein.
